Shows which systems rely on others so people can understand the effect of a failure or change.
For example…
A dependency map shows that the customer portal relies on identity, payments and the CRM API, making the likely impact of each outage visible
Before switching off an old reporting database, the team checks what still depends on it and discovers that two regular reports would stop working
