Resilience management - Measure
RPO
(Recovery Point Objective)
The maximum amount of recent data, measured in time, that can be lost after a failure
What's it for?
Sets how much recent information an organisation is prepared to lose after a serious failure.
For example…
Finance sets an RPO of 15 minutes for the payments system, so replication runs continuously rather than nightly
A one-hour RPO means disaster recovery must be designed so the organisation would normally lose no more than about one hour of recent data
Think of it like…
Deciding how far back your notebook can go blank after a spill—last page, last hour, or last week
